Of all the spooky places and Halloween attractions in Pennsylvania, Westmoreland County's Livermore Cemetery might be the creepiest. An urban legend -- call this one a rural myth -- that scores of people were killed when the Conemaugh River flooded the former town of Livermore are false. Livermore was evacuated and razed in the 1950s to build a flood control dam on the river. All that remains of the town is its cemetery, high on a dreary bluff. The legend continues, however, that Livermore's former residents, having been moved to accommodate the lake, are restive in death. Film director George Romero used the bleak backdrop for the iconic cemetery scene in his horror cult classic "Night of the Living Dead." Because of vandalism, access to the gravestones is restricted, but Livermore Cemetery remains a spooky regional attraction. "They're coming to get you, Barbara."
