In the grand workplace tradition of totally mailing it in at the end of the year because everybody is on vacation (or because everybody is spending unused sick days, which is a grand organized labor workplace tradition), Munch is going to totally mail it in at the end of the year. In the television business, it's called "reruns." In radio, it's called "The Best of Jim and Randy." But in the newspaper business, it's called:

The 2010 Munchies

Presented by The Pittsburgh Academy of Epicurean Arts and Gastronomical Sciences and Air Conditioning Repair

This is somewhat like the awards given out by City Paper or the Valley News Dispatch or the Pinedale Roundup or what have you, which ask their readers to name their favorite restaurant (which is nearly always Red Lobster), except in Munch's version of the end-of-year awards ceremony, nobody voted and nobody gets a stupid certificate to hang in the window that says, "Bravo Cucina, Voted Best Italian, North Hills in the 2001-03 Pittsburgh Magazine Readers Poll."

So we can all be thankful for that. Truly, it is the season of blessings.

This year's awards ceremony is being hosted by comic genius Alec Baldwin, who ... wait, what's this? He had to cancel? Too busy screaming at his daughter? Calling her a rude pig? Backup plan: This year's ceremony will be hosted by Hollywood action legend Mel Gibson, who ... what's that you say? He had to cancel, too? Too busy screaming at his girlfriend?

Does anybody have Neil Patrick Harris' cell phone number?

OK, never mind then. This year's ceremony will again be hosted in apathetic fashion by yours truly, the Gadabout Gourmand. Don't be expecting any musical numbers. Your swag bag will contain gourmet chocolates from Sarris and one pulled-pork sampler platter from Pierogies Plus.

• Best Place for Roti: Munch didn't even know what a dessert roti was until this year, or if I did I'd long since forgotten it, probably on account of all the holiday booze. Point is, you can indeed teach an old dog new tricks. Roti is an unleavened flour flatbread used in Indian and other Eastern cuisines, but if you fry it up and stuff it with sliced bananas, then deck it out with cinnamon, chocolate and plum sauce -- bingo, dessert.

Munch: munch@post-gazette.com or look for Munch on Facebook. Sincere wishes for a happy, healthy and hungry 2011, to all the FOMs out there.
