Help your honey smell extra sweet as you're snuggling cheek to cheek this Valentine's Day with fragrances for him and her. There are many new scents on the market this month, as well as new places to purchase some longtime favorites.
So rather than -- or in addition to? -- the usual candygram, give a gift that will last a bit longer and that you both can enjoy, without the calorie guilt.
Burberry Body Mist: The limited-edition mist is a lighter incarnation of Burberry's staple Body fragrance. It's a delicate combination of peach and freesia, with hints of rose, iris and sandalwood, packaged in a sleek frosted glass bottle. Vanilla, amber, musk and woody cashmeran make up the base.
It's $50 at www.burberry.com and most major department stores.
Bombshell in Love and Simply Gorgeous, Victoria's Secret: The seller of all things sweet and sexy is celebrating Cupid's Day by welcoming two new scents to its family of fragrances. Bombshell in Love is an aromatic tango of fruits and florals, available in an eau de parfum ($49), body mist ($25) and body lotion ($20). Or amp up the flirt factor with Simply Gorgeous, a blend of crimson apple, velvet amber and sun-kissed petals also offered in eau de parfum, body mist and body lotion varieties for the same prices.
Find it at Victoria's Secret stores or www.victoriassecret.com.
SOUL2SOUL by Faith Hill and Tim McGraw: Country music's power couple is singing its love in scent this Valentine's Day with something for men and women. One is romantic and elegant. The other is woodsy and modern. Together, they're the perfect complement, just like the bond of their Grammy Award-winning creators.
Each ranges from $18 to $31.50 at most major merchandisers and drugstores.
Black Jade and Gin Fizz from Lubin Paris: These fragrant beauties aren't new, but they just got a little easier to find in Pittsburgh. Perlora, the South Side home furnishings store, has added to its inventory of accessories and trinkets the perfumes Black Jade, first made in the late 1700s for Queen Marie Antoinette, and Gin Fizz, a citrusy tribute to silver screen starlet Grace Kelly.
It's $130 at the store's 2220 E. Carson St. location. Learn more at www.lubin.eu.
Fashion Week live stream on YouTube: Don't fret if you can't make it to New York City to preview what trends will be hitting store racks next fall and winter. Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week has teamed up with YouTube and Maybelline New York to broadcast on the Web 30 runway shows by designers such as Jill Stuart, Dennis Basso, Vera Wang and Diane von Furstenberg. The channel at www.youtube.com/liverunway also will feature how-to videos, beauty tips from backstage and interviews with fashion industry insiders.
Streaming begins Thursday and will run for one week.
8th annual Pittsburgh Knit & Crochet Festival: Take part in three days of classes and knitted and crocheted fashions at the Four Points by Sheraton Pittsburgh North, Marshall. On Friday, learn techniques and browse others' designs from 1:30 to 6:30 p.m., followed by a fashion show with wine and cheese at 7:30 p.m. The classes and market will continue 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday (with a pajama party with desserts, prizes and cash bar at 7:30 p.m.) and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
