Due to overwhelming demand, the sale of ornaments forged from the Civic Arena's retractable dome has been extended until mid-December.

The Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation announced Saturday that it will accept orders for the ornaments until 5 p.m. Dec. 14. The foundation and Wendell August Forge, the metal and giftware company that creates the ornaments, purchased an additional 95,000 square feet of the old roof to keep up with orders that far exceeded creators' expectations.

"The original plan was to make 6,000 of these ornaments, and we have already sold more than 40,000. It's amazing," said foundation president Dave Soltesz.

He said the proceeds raised so far will allow the foundation to fully fund three youth and school programs next year. All proceeds will go toward the foundation's youth charities.

New orders will be delivered in January. Those placed before Nov. 30 are expected to make it to customers' homes before Christmas. A link to purchase the $29 ornaments can be found at www.pittsburghpenguinsfoundation.org.
