PNC Park adding new eats
It's not just new players that create anticipation among Pirates fans. Monday's home opener at PNC Park also will serve up new menu items at ARAMARK concessions throughout the ballpark.
Among the fresh offerings Matt Roach, executive chef of Levy Restaurants, is to unveil today during the club's annual media day are several new specialty burgers, including a Mushroom Swiss Burger that comes with an A.1. steak sauce aioli. Just as delicious-sounding are the Monster Chicken Nachos available in Pops Plaza at Chicken on the Hill in the main concourse; a sauerkraut-and-Thousand-Island-dressing-topped Reuben Dog at the North Shore Refreshment; and old-fashioned milkshakes and a Grilled Chicken Bistro Sandwich on ciabatta bread, available at Federal Street Grille. Select concession stands will offer several new craft beers.
The Hall of Fame Club, meanwhile, gets trendy with Wild Pacific Salmon roasted on a cedar plank, Seared Ahi Tuna served atop a wasabi risotto cake and a Cajun-style Chicken Broccoli Alfredo. Among the nine new craft beers available there is the local Fat Gary's Nut Brown Ale on draft.
Concessions for premium seat areas such as the Pittsburgh Baseball Club level also will trot out several new items, including Funnel Cake Dippers and a Primanti's-style Chicken Slugger sandwich that marries chicken breast with provolone, coleslaw and french fries. The real gutbuster, though, is the pretzel-like Victory Knot, served with a choice of three dipping sauces. It's so big -- 2 pounds of dough big -- that it comes in a pizza box.
Super-sizers will be happy to know the park once again will offer its "All You Can Eat Seats," with all the hot dogs, hamburgers, nachos, salad, popcorn, peanuts, ice cream and soda you can swallow from two hours before the game to the final out, for just $35 ($40 purchased on game day). A reserved seat in the outfield included, but no Tums.
