Pine supervisors consider Giant Eagle beer sales

Giant Eagle customers might be able to pick up a six pack of beer to go if the state Liquor Control Board approves a liquor license for its Village at Pine store.
Pine's Board of Supervisors was asked to weigh in on the proposal at last night's meeting. The supervisors voted 4-0, with Supervisor Philip Henry abstaining, to look into finding that granting the license would not be "injurious" to the residents of Pine.

The sale of beer would be limited to the store's restaurant, said attorney Stanley J. Wolowski, who represented Giant Eagle. Customers would be able to buy beer to consume in the restaurant with a meal or purchase six-packs to go, he said.
Andy and Linda Chomos, owners of Wexford Beer Distributors, spoke against the granting of the license. Mrs. Chomos said she believes the principal intent is to sell beer to grocery store customers, not to create a restaurant atmosphere at the store. Mr. Chomos said local beer distributors in Pine will not be able to compete with the grocery chain.
