New lemon cookie for Girl Scouts' sale this year
This year's Girl Scout Cookies campaign will kick off Friday. Girls across the region will be raising funds and developing skills by selling old favorites, as well as a new lemon cookie called Savannah Smiles. The wedges are described as "cool and crisp, with just the right number of lemon chips to deliver tiny bursts of flavor."
Savannah, Ga., is where Juliette Gordon Low started Girl Scouts in 1912, which makes this the organization's 100th birthday. Members, ages 5 to 17, number 35,000-plus in Western Pennsylvania alone.
They'll be selling the new cookies and seven other varieties -- Trefoils, Do-Si-Dos, Samoas, Dulce de Leche, Thank U Berry Munch, Tagalongs and Thin Mints -- for $4 per box. From Feb. 24 through March 11, they'll be selling from booths set up in various places.
