Valentine's Day
• Elements Contemporary Cuisine will offer a full menu for Valentine's dining, along with a four-course prix fixe for $40 per person, which will be available Friday through Feb. 18. • Designing Love at 463 Biddle Ave., Wilkinsburg, is holding a Valentine's Day Sizzles dinner party from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday. Private chef Shaun Forsett of Sola Gratia and florist Paulette Khouri of Urban Gypsy are teaming up for the festive dinner, creating elaborate place settings and a romantic menu which will include shrimp tarts, zucchini spaghetti with eggplant and Moroccan chicken; $95 per person includes personalized gifts, reservations required; 724-553-8703.
• Arpino's Trattoria, Scott, is offering a special Valentine's prix fixe on Tuesday. The four-course menu includes an appetizer, salad, choice of two entrees and dessert, as well as a complimentary glass of prosecco; $75 per couple; www.arpinotrattoria.com , 412-207-2765.
• Tavern 245, Downtown, is offering a three-course prix fixe dinner for Valentine's Day on Tuesday. The menu includes a choice of soup or salad and three entree options; the price includes the couple's choice of wine or champagne by the bottle. • At the Fairmont Pittsburgh's Habitat, Downtown, which also is doing a special Valentine's Day menu, you also can purchase gifts by pastry chef James Wroblewski and his team, including Cherry & Black Pepper Compote ($5), Strawberry Jam ($5), Spiced Hot Chocolate ($8), Valentine's Truffles (three for $9 or six for $18), Vanilla Cherry Extract ($12), Don't Break My Heart Chocolate Bark ($4), Chocolate Cherry Chip Cookies ($4), Raspberry Marshmallows ($5), Raspberry Rose Macarons ($4), Rice Krispy Treats ($4) and Large Frosted Sugar Heart Cookies ($5).
• Pines Tavern, Pines is running a Valentine's menu through next Thursday, with special drinks including the Sweet & Tart and the Butter Fingers Martini. After that, it celebrates Mardi Gras with a "Gumbo Ya Ya Fat Tuesday Beer Tasting" at 6 p.m. Feb. 21. On the menu, in addition to New Orleans Jazz by Rick Gallagher and Lori Thee, are an assortment of gumbos -- chicken and andouille, shrimp, smoked duck and andouille and Gumbo Z'Herbes (meatless) -- with rice and Passed Oyster Sliders with Spicy Crawfish Aioli. The beers: Rogue Chocolate Stout, Woodchuck Spring Cider and three from Louisiana: Abita Purple Haze, Abita Mardi Gras Bock and Abita Andygatore. Cost is $20 per person not including tax and gratuity; walk-ins welcome, but reservations are recommended at 724-625-3252.
