After nine years on the Boulevard of the Allies, Downtown, Izzazu Salon and Spa (above) has moved to Piatt Place at 301 Fifth Ave., next to the Capital Grille. The salon will have its grand opening next month, but it began serving clients in the new location Oct. 4. With the grand opening will come a change in name -- to Izzazu Salon, Spa and Serata, which is Italian for evening.
"Our serata is a gorgeous styling and relaxation place for private parties, corporate spa parties, girls' night out and bridal parties," says Emilio Cornacchione, who owns the salon with Gino Chiodo. "It's a great way to prepare for an evening out or, as we like to say, bella serata. We really think this is the future of salons."
The serata is on the mezzanine, where a 15-member team can get a bridal party of 12 ready in two hours. Clients may bring refreshments for serata parties or choose to have catering by the Capital Grille.
"Modern, edgy and elegant" is how Mr. Chiodo describes the new salon, which he says was designed to reflect the type of clients they serve. The 5,000-square-foot space accommodates a staff of 33 stylists and the 10 spa and support personnel who staff the private treatment rooms. Underground parking is a plus at the new location.
"We're about updating and upgrading," says Mr. Cornacchione. "Our whole thing was to be centrally located, to be one of the pioneers on Fifth Avenue. We have the Fairmont to the right, the Omni to the left and 65 luxury condos above us. We wanted to capitalize on the 187,000 people who work in a two-block radius of our location. Our focus is to be more convenient. We feel Downtown is the true center of the city."
