House tours open doors to season's finery

The season for holiday house tours is upon us. Here's a roundup:

Dec. 1-3

Phipps Garden Center's annual Holiday Splendor and Holiday House Tour combines a gift and greens sale with a tour of an East End house professionally decorated for the holidays.

Shuttles from the center, 1059 Shady Ave., to the house run 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Thursday, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday and 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Saturday. Breakfast starts at 10 a.m. Thursday and Friday; tickets, $30. Luncheon begins at 12:30 p.m. Friday; $50. Floral design demonstration begins at 10 a.m. Saturday; $35. Shopping at garden center all three days, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

Dec. 3

The Friends of Jefferson Hills Library will feature four area homes on its first Holiday Homes in the Hills tour 4-8 p.m. Also, a holiday gift mart and refreshments in the library community room, 925 Old Clairton Road. Tickets, $20. Information: 412-655-7741.

Ben Avon Holiday House Tour features seven homes and runs 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. Starts at Ben Avon Borough Hall, 7101 Church Ave., shuttle available. Also a ticket auction, raffles, carolers and gourmet goodies. Tickets $20 in advance, $22 on tour day. Proceeds benefit Avon Club Foundation. Reservations required, 412-766-3423.

Candelight house tour and Christmas benefit dinner in Old Economy Village, Ambridge, Beaver County. Dine like the Harmonists in the 1827 feast hall with musical entertainment. Tours begin at 6 p.m., dinner at 7 p.m. Cost $75 per person, $65 for Harmonie Associates members. Reservations required by Tuesday, 724-266-4500, ext. 101.

Six houses in Mt. Lebanon will be open for Coldwell Banker Real Estate's second Holiday House Tour 10 a.m.-3 p.m. to benefit the Mother's Hope Foundation.
