Celebrations Spotlight: Alyse Vesely and Mark Bonacci
Alyse Vesely and Mark Bonacci, both 27, wed on November 5, 2011. The couple currently resides in Annapolis, Maryland.
Q: How did you meet?
Alyse: I attended Duquesne University and Mark attended Carnegie Mellon University. I attended a party at his fraternity. (We Duquesne girls were always looking for smart guys!) We met there and talked all night.
Q: Who introduced you?
Alyse: No one introduced us exactly. One thing that I know for sure is that without the help of Mark's "big brother" in his fraternity, he might never have called me. (His big brother was a friend of mine from high school.)
Q: Where did you each grow up?
Alyse: I grew up in Peters Township and Mark grew up in West Mifflin.
Q: Who proposed? How?
Alyse: When I first moved to Annapolis, we found this great national park that has a great beach on the Chesapeake Bay. It became a yearly tradition to hike through the woods and walk to the beach. Mark wanted to propose to me there since it is "our spot." On the day that we were supposed to go, it rained. I have never seen anyone more upset about rain! I couldn't quite understand why until we went the next weekend. Once we hiked to the beach, we sat down and Mark presented me with a shell he found that "happened" to hold a nice little blue velvet box from Goldstock Jewelers. That's where he asked me to marry him.
Q: Where were you married? Why did you choose that site?
Alyse: Our ceremony was at Duquesne University's Chapel. I graduated from Duquesne University and thought that the chapel was beautiful. I always wanted to get married in the chapel and thankfully, Mark agreed!
Q: Where was the reception and honeymoon? Why did you choose those sites?
Alyse: We had our reception at the Duquesne University Power Center. It is a beautiful venue that overlooks the city. We love the city of Pittsburgh and this spot was a great way to showcase our beloved city at our wedding!
Q: Our honeymoon was in Costa Rica. We stayed at the Westin in Playa Conchal. It was beautiful. We swam in the Pacific Ocean, saw sea turtles and other awesome marine life while snorkeling, rode a zip line (which was insanely scary for me, but Mark was fine), saw an active volcano and hiked through the rain forest. The food at the resort was amazing and so was their signature pineapple mojito.
Q: What was the best part? The worst?
Alyse: The best part was being able to celebrate with our family and friends. We have heard many times over that our wedding was one of the best that our guests have been to. And although we were dragged this way and that, we were still able to celebrate and party with everyone!
