E.L. James' "Fifty Shades of Grey" was a publishing phenomenon in 2012 and the book's title has worked its way into the American lexicon. A recent NPR story described how all of us have been "trying to work the phrase, Fifty Shades, into all headlines for the past year to increase Web search traffic." They shared a few examples like "Fifty Shades of Crazy" from the Huffington Post and a cookbook parody called "Fifty Shades of Chicken."

Somehow I managed to get through 2012 without drawing a single cartoon about this erotic romance trilogy. This should make up for that.
