O sour apple, leaf decay, Alexander Hays,
O space between the vibrant and what crunch!

A doe, a lapse, an accidental drowning,
Spotted fawn, forgotten lot, Private John Frederick!

Almighty potato bug, oblivious centipede,
Honor all who creep and crawl!

Warm tree tunnel shades green
Goose droppings, what odor, which war?

Ducklings, triplets, Major Isaac Craig,
Things that buck and peck and quack!

All hail crunchy cicada shell,
Held between finger pads!

Swirling dirt, bathing geese, eternal acorn,
Bits that lie and remain!

Be still pond waddlers,
Forage grave chipmunk!
