Saturday Poem / HEDGE TRIMMING (on my birthday)

Share with others:
To grow lost in the tasks
of trimming and raking,
the steady whirr of electric shears,
the rhythmic scratching of spokes
of an aluminum rake,
the bending and scooping up
of clippings,
then to see
a blue swallowtail
float, hover, and rest open-winged
on the neat rectangle of the hedge.
