I agree with Margaret Carlson's recent column about women in combat ("Is a Woman's Place on the Battlefield?" Jan. 31). I think that women should be accepted onto the battlefield. Women should have the same rights and opportunities as men have, especially in the military force. I agree that "women argue, legitimately, that by being kept from combat units they're being denied the top jobs."
Women are becoming stronger and more independent, and gender shouldn't be a factor as to whether women are capable of doing the same jobs that have been assigned to men. Although women are more vulnerable than men, it doesn't mean that women shouldn't be allowed to do something. In other cases if you're going to keep women away from combat, then they should be kept from being police officers. Strength should be measured emotionally, physically and mentally.
Regarding the public fear that women are more likely to be caught and raped: Military courses teach self-defense and problem solving.
