What better time to scream for gun control?

In her Dec. 22 letter "Gun-Control Noise," Sarah Lucas would have us hold our tongues about gun control ("gather your wits before you go off the deep end," she says) and only mourn and offer sympathy to the people of Newtown, Conn. My question: What better time to be vociferous about the need for tighter gun control in this violence-ridden society than just after the killing of 20 innocent children?
True sympathy for those parents, it seems to me, would be joined with action taken to lessen the likelihood of such another tragedy.
"Screaming about gun control" is, indeed, too late for the children of Newtown. But let us scream ever louder for the sake of the children who are with us still.
