UPMC's footprint

While I'm no fan of complimenting journalists for doing their job, your first entry in the UPMC series ("Forging a Giant Footprint," Sept. 23) was a real eye opener. I was shocked about how much property this company has been acquiring across the region (not to mention what they're paying for it). I think Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald said it best when he called it a "mixed bag."

It's up to individual communities to decide whether UPMC's growing presence is worth the tax-exempt trade off. Your informative work will certainly help residents come to grounded, informed decisions and hopefully proceed through the right legislative channels to enact change as necessary.
