Unsafe commute

This is in response to Brian O'Neill's June 14 column, "Tough Walk Lies Ahead From Loss of T Stop." The Sandy Creek T stop is not the only stop where there will be a difficult walk for those who will lose their stop after the June 25 closures. The elimination of the Smith Road and Martin Villa stops in Castle Shannon will also cause great difficulties for the elderly and disabled if they are to close.

The notion that we should use the St. Anne T Stop will create hazardous conditions for the young schoolchildren as there will be more traffic congestion near this elementary school. Washington Junction is not even an option for pedestrians. Why does Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald insist on making people drive to take public transportation?

I rode the T for 28 years and never heard complaints about trying to speed up the time. We need a safe mass transit system, not an unsafe rapid transit system.
