Twice in the past month, the Post-Gazette editorial writers have taken shots at Pennsylvania's soft drink industry -- an industry that provides good jobs to Pennsylvanians and a variety of choices for Pennsylvania consumers.
It's hard to believe that reasonable, mainstream media outlets could use over-the-top rhetoric like "lay waste to communities ... with unhealthy products" ("Unworthy Cause," Feb. 3 editorial) when referring to our industry.
The beverage industry provides a wide variety of full-, low- and no-calorie options to consumers. We've clearly labeled our products to empower consumers to pick the drink that's right for them. We've removed full-calorie products from schools, and we're taking aggressive steps to encourage our customers to make healthy choices.
Before making such uninformed statements, the Post-Gazette and other critics should spend more time learning the facts and should recognize the power of consumers to make the right decisions for themselves and their families.
