Undeniable change

In the Jan. 28 column by George F. Will ("Recipe for Conservative Revival"), he once again displayed his scientific illiteracy. It's one thing to believe that climate change is part of a natural warming cycle; it's quite another to deny that the planet is warming.

His "proof" is a comparison to the global temperature in 1998. He fails to mention that 1998 is the warmest year since 1880, when temperatures started being recorded. With that one exception, nine of the 10 warmest years have occurred since 2002. Global temperature is determined by measuring land, air and water temperatures around the world, and not just in the United States as he implies.

Scientific data have been compiled by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and by the World Meteorological Organization that proves beyond a doubt that the planet is warming. It is undeniable that drought, fires and storms are affected by warming. When someone is so adept at spinning the truth, they qualify as a scientific consultant to the Flat Earth Society.
