I haven't written a letter recently because my thoughts have already been expressed by other writers, but no one has touched on this. In the push to privatize wine and liquor sales in Pennsylvania, no one has expressed the concern about what it will do to the stores, especially grocery stores, which will now devote shelf and floor space to these items.
I am somewhat disabled and can't walk long distances and I find it very annoying that I have to navigate large areas devoted to greeting cards, floral, clothing and even house furnishings. In fact, just a day or two ago I filled out a survey from my usual store chain and, when asked what they could do to improve things, this is what I brought up.
I have begun to favor a small store in that chain that has little or none of the non-grocery items and doesn't have room to add them. And right next to their location is a state store and beer distributor that fill my needs fine, including information and carry-out. And I don't have to deal with people socializing or talking on a cell phone in front of the merchandise, something I experienced when in the wine area of a store in North Carolina.
