Tone-deaf plea

Regarding the Perspectives piece by Bishop David Zubik ("An Oversupply of 'Nones' "):

I was raised Catholic and it was generally a positive experience. I simply grew away from this faith. (I am now very happy as a Unitarian Universalist, thank you!) But as one who has no hard feelings about Catholicism, this piece is simply tone deaf. Confession of my sins? Seriously? Like this is going to bring me back into the fold?

Why not make an attempt at appealing to or possibly acknowledging the gifts that I could bring to your movement? Or are you of the opinion that the "nones" couldn't possibly offer anything of any substance?

Although I give Bishop Zubik credit for making attempts at being a public theologian, to me, he repeatedly makes it evident that his movement simply doesn't "get it."

If I were a "none" reading this article, I would be much more convinced that the place I chose to be -- at home in my life -- would be preferable to the place he'd choose for me to be -- at home in his confessional.
