Thank you, military

Since Dec. 7, 1941, to the present our nation has been involved in conflict for 31 years of that time. If the Cold War is considered, that number increases.

Our soldiers, sailors, Marines and Air Force personnel have been standing at their posts for us, some far from family and loved ones. We are entering the time of year when we all should give a thought to those men and women standing at those posts. Say "hello" to them if you see one.

While on a cruise in the Mediterranean, I received a box of Christmas cards handmade by third-graders and sent by their teacher. The box was taken to the mess decks for the crew to read through. I remember the big smiles and laughs from my shipmates just before the 25th. It does get quiet at times during this time of year, even with your fellows-in-arms around.

Seasons Greetings, men and women of all the services, and thanks.
