Selfish attitude

Shame on Sen. Rob Portman, the Republican from Ohio. When the issue of gay marriage only mattered to the parents of others, he found the concept abhorrent. But now that he has learned that he is the parent of a gay son, his son's happiness matters more than the happiness of other sons and daughters whose rights he has long denied. While I welcome his transition to true democracy for all, and while I hope many of his colleagues will also see the light, I am dismayed at the "self-first" culture of those who make our laws.
