The people have spoken and the election results show support for President Obama and his policies. It is now time for the Republican-controlled House of Representatives' leadership to show the ability to compromise on the critical issues facing our country: upholding the safety net for those less fortunate, health care as passed and later upheld by the Supreme Court, improvements to infrastructure and global warming.

The cuts that need to be made to reduce the federal deficit cannot be made at the expense of seniors and younger people approaching retirement age. I hope they will look at cuts in the military budget and an increase in the taxes of the very wealthy, as the president has proposed.
