Pa.'s top ostrich

What does Gov. Tom Corbett have in common with an ostrich? An ostrich is a bird with big wings but can never fly. He hides his head in the sand when the going gets tough and hopes no one can see or find him. The ostrich's memory is not that good either.

Like the ostrich, Gov. Corbett, surrounded by the walls of his Harrisburg mansion, is happy to forget about the hard-working Pittsburghers who are about to lose almost half of their mass transit system because his head was in the sand when the issue came up.

As the Pennsylvania legislators and Mr. Corbett enjoy their summer break with their families, thousands of Pittsburghers who need to get around will be stranded -- not to mention the thousands who will lose their jobs.

Hey, not to worry, private enterprise will pick up the slack -- right. If that doesn't work, maybe next year we can hire another 30-member transportation funding task force to study the issue again -- in between their breaks, that is. Or you can always put your head back in the sand, governor, and with a little luck no one will be able to find you until your term is up.
