Other tragedies

As tragic as the 20 child deaths due to gun violence in Newtown are, let's not forget the hundreds of equally tragic cases of children killed in the cross-fire of urban warfare, in the paths of angry adults in domestic violence and through the lack of parental education or vigilance when guns are present in the home.

Schools are still among the safest places for our children. Instead of reacting with all our resources to a single tragic incident, let's keep the big picture in mind and proceed with prevention projects that will protect a larger number of children from injury and death due to guns.
