Now is not the time to give up on the Pirates

In 2010 the Buccos won 57 games. This year they may win 81. That's a 42 percent improvement. Would you invest in a stock with that performance record? I would.

I have been a Pirates fan from the day Maz put Yogi's face in the sky. As a student at Pitt, my fellow students and I attempted to steal home plate from abandoned Forbes Field. We used our fingers: We didn't know about the steel and concrete. We bled black and gold long before there were the Steelers.

All Bucco fans have a choice this weekend: 1) Stay away from PNC Park and moan about being let down again or, 2) fill that park and stay on your feet, cheering every single player on this team -- the one that has brought MLB back to Pittsburgh. Call them out of the dugout, the bullpen. These are young guys; for many their careers consist of 2010-2012. For them it makes a huge difference how we send them into the off-season. If they slink away to empty seats, silence and even boos they will think about that for six months. If they go out to a three-day standing-O they will live that during those same months.

You don't have to wait till next year -- you can invest in it this weekend. I am planning to come from more than 500 miles away. I will be there -- and on my feet the whole time.
