I would like to thank the Post-Gazette for the online article "Councilman Proposed No-Smoking Areas in Pittsburgh Parks" (Feb. 19). As a person with asthma, I was happy to read about Pittsburgh City Councilman Ricky Burgess' plan to help me and others breathe easier.

I personally have had a few "close calls" due to secondhand smoke in public areas. Banning smoking in public parks would be very beneficial to people's health. According to recent government statistics, tobacco smoke is the leading trigger for asthma attacks.

If passed, Mr. Burgess' bill would help prevent asthma attacks due to secondhand smoke in public parks, thus keeping children, teens and even adults with asthma healthy and out of harm's way!
