Misplaced loyalties on display in attacks on Hagel

Prior to the committee hearings on the nomination of Chuck Hagel as secretary of defense the news media led us to believe that those against him were gays and lesbians, the Israel lobby and the neocons. However, during the hearings it became quite obvious that the main culprits against the nomination of Chuck Hagel, American war hero, were the neocons and the pro-Israel lobbies.

In watching the ruthless questioning (all for Israel) by Sens. John McCain and Lindsey Graham I reverted to the presidential campaign when Sen. McCain ran against Barack Obama. During that campaign Sen. Graham, Joe Lieberman and candidate McCain made their famous knee-bending trip to Israel. Recently I have read anti-Hagel articles by many supposed true Americans when in reality their first love is Israel. It was quite obvious that Sens. McCain and Graham and many Republicans were carrying water for AIPAC and many other pro-Israel lobbies and loyalists.

It had nothing to do with Mr. Hagel's long ago misstatements (and apologies) about LGBT groups. Clearly the pro-Israel groups threw the hero Chuck Hagel under the American flag. It is time to ban such anti-American groups from our political system when their loyalty is elsewhere! Their behavior is shameless and arrogant. It must end.
