As Citizens Against Litter moves ahead with plans for the Spring-Earth Day Redd Up April 19-21, "thank yous" are in order for the 10,000 who participated in last month's Redd Up (Oct. 20). Included were 3,000 Pitt students who were bused into more than 60 neighborhoods in and outside Pittsburgh on "Pitt Make a Difference Day." Pitt's turnout was its largest since 2007 and probably the largest single-group effort nationally that attracts more than 3 million for all kinds of community projects.

As strong as the volunteer turnout has been year after year in Pittsburgh, our battle cry against litter must continue: People who care must pick up for people who litter and don't care.
