Transit reductions will hurt Access riders
I am a Port Authority transit rider and I am very concerned about the upcoming cuts. These cuts are the most drastic ever! A cut of 35 percent means reduced or eliminated service affecting the most vulnerable citizens of our great city. For example, I like to ride buses after 10 p.m. many nights. Guess what? I will have to come home earlier or face being stuck somewhere.
Even worse are the drastic cuts affecting people who ride Access. If the cuts go through, Access riders can forget about going to destinations that are not within three-quarters of a mile of a Port Authority line. Not only that, many Access riders live nowhere near a Port Authority bus stop. They will be entirely cut off from their only means of getting around.
Let's convince the powers that be in Harrisburg that everyone deserves to live wherever they want and be able to get to work, play, church, appointments, etc.

Inspiring ad
How in the world do people turn a very inspirational commercial political? The Clint Eastwood commercial on Super Bowl Sunday was inspiring, yet some call it pro-Obama or patriotic propaganda. Well, I for one was raised in an America where you did get up after being knocked down. You fought until victory was won. You busted your hump for what you have. And you appreciated every single thing that made this country great.
While wearing the flag of my country on my right sleeve (fighting in Iraq), I witnessed how the other side lives and know that I would not want to die for that. However, I would die a thousand times over to protect the values and beliefs of our nation while protecting the nation that I love and hold so dear.
So, in short, believe it or not, our finest hour is yet to come. In the near future those who fought so valiantly and honorably beside me will be sitting in the seats of Washington and Harrisburg. We fought too long and hard for this nation to let it fail. I hope you are ready, America, because my generation of warriors is. Write it down -- the best is yet to come.

Criminal headline
I found the headline "Donations for Obama Tied to Mexican Crook" (Feb. 7) to be most misleading. What it sounds like is that a Mexican criminal is funding the Obama campaign. What happened, in fact, is that the campaign is returning more than $200,000 after learning that family members of a criminal suspect who fled the country were the contributors. The campaign is refusing to allow these contributions. That is quite a different actual truth than the headline strongly suggests.
