Killed jobs for vets

On Sept. 19, Sen. Pat Toomey and three other Republican senators voted "no" for the bipartisan, totally-paid-for Veterans Jobs Corps bill. Therefore, the 60 votes needed to break yet another Republican-led filibuster fell short by two votes. Mr. Toomey and the three senators wrote parts of the bill yet they still killed it.

Every 80 minutes a veteran commits suicide, 225,000 are unemployed and the veteran unemployment rate is 11 percent.

The Senate can't vote again on this bill until sometime next year. It is an outrage for these Republican senators to turn their backs on our deserving veterans in need of assistance.

I am embarrassed that Sen. Toomey represents me. As you cast your vote in November, remember which party has been most obstructive to the democratic process.
