In regard to your editorial "Killer's Cradle: Domestic Cats Are Wildlife Enemy No. 1" (Feb. 13), I would like to begin by saying that my four beloved cats are kept strictly indoors 24/7, as their health and safety are important to me.
People who let their pet cats roam outdoors are irresponsible idiots who are putting their cats' lives in danger. (That "call of the wild" nonsense is in your head, not your cat's!) Keeping pet cats indoors would go a long way toward reducing the threat to wildlife.
Catching and killing feral cats has long been proven to be ineffective; more feral cats simply move in to take their place, and the cycle of catching and killing never ends. As long as there are lazy morons who dump cats in the streets instead of taking them to a shelter, there will be stray and feral cats at large. Trap-neuter-return goes a long way toward stabilizing the feral cat population.
One final thought: If feral cats are supposedly such prolific killers of birds and small mammals, then why are so many feral cats starving without human assistance? Has anyone ever seen a fat feral cat?
