It's a fascist salute

Last Saturday, this paper printed a photograph of Anders Behring Breivik, the self-confessed mass murderer who went on a rampage in Norway, killing 77 people, with a caption including the statement " ... raises his fist in a right wing salute ..." ("Norway Gunman Ruled Sane," Aug. 25).

What research was conducted to conclude that this is a "right wing" salute? In most circles and by any definition, this is known as a fascist salute, used by the likes of some of the most despicable men, Hitler, Stalin, Castro, Mao and, if memory serves me, even the Marxist revolutionary Che Guevara. But right wing? Really? How do you define right wing? The men mentioned had oppressed and killed their own countrymen and women, focusing, in cases, on a specific race or religion.

Who from the "right" has said that Mao was one of their "favorite political philosophers" like Anita Dunn, President Obama's former communications director? Or praised Fidel Castro, like Michael Moore or, better yet, members of the Congressional Black Caucus?

No one on the left or right supports mass murder or the perpetrators of those crimes, and it is fascinating that this publication consistently portrays Republicans as divisive. Now you have linked a fascist salute and another despicable man to the right wing. Is this ignorance or divisive?
