Geraldine Jones, acting president of California University of Pennsylvania, has demonstrated competence and success by every measure, objective and subjective. I am confident that she will continue to lead Cal U regardless of her title; however, it is unfair to the rest of the university community to deprive her of "interim president" status.

A university under the leadership of an "acting president" suggests uncertainty and a potential sudden change in direction. On the other hand, an "interim" president's leadership is a constant while preparations and decisions are made for the future.

Geraldine Jones has earned the right to be the "interim president;" however, it is for the university's sake that this change becomes an imperative.
