I just read your coverage of Gov. Tom Corbett's budget address, written by Laura Olson, Karen Langley and Mary Niederberger ("Governor Loosening Purse Strings," Feb. 6), and noticed that you neglected to mention the nearly 600 citizens from all over the commonwealth who were also in attendance. Considering the volume of the chants and outrage of those on the stairway and who viewed the address, it is not possible for them to have gone unnoticed.
I am at a loss as to how your paper is going to accurately report on the day's events without mentioning how obviously fed up the people are with Mr. Corbett and all of the cuts constantly being made. In one term, he has managed to consistently cut the education budget while building more and more prisons to house those individuals who were failed by the school systems that lacked the resources to support them, because of those cuts.
Each year public transportation faces more cuts, meaning more cuts to routes, longer waits and higher prices for individuals who can barely afford to pay as it is. Growing up in Detroit, I heard how much we could learn from Pittsburgh and the state of Pennsylvania. However, in the past four years it appears that Pennsylvania is moving backwards and learning bad habits from Michigan. Some days I think it was actually easier to navigate public transportation at home than it is within this commonwealth.
