Honor the arena

As Pittsburghers, we value and respect the past, while at the same time we embrace the future. This is evidenced by our emergence as a technologically happening place and by our embrace of LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) construction. What better way to mesh both our past and future than by incorporating into the new plans for the Civic/Mellon Arena site a grassy, park-like area in the shape of the ice at the exact spot where the arena ice brought us so many treasured memories over the years?

This can be similar to the Forbes Field Wall, only on a larger scale, with the new "ice park" being the focal point of the new construction. New buildings can be built around this focal point. To paraphrase Joni Mitchell, maybe we don't have to totally pave paradise to put up a parking lot!
