Heinz disappoints

I passed the Heinz plant every day for 30 years and considered the company to be highly principled. I am disappointed it chose to contribute to a $34 million fund, as did Monsanto, DuPont, Horizon and others designed to defeat Proposition 37, a referendum on the California ballot that would require genetically modified foods to be labeled.

Passage of the bill would eventually affect Pennsylvanians. Many people believe we have a right to know what kind of food we serve our families, and this decision should not be left to corporate determination. Citizens of 60 other countries benefit from this right, including Russia, India and China. Shouldn't we have the same rights?

It is disappointing to know these companies put corporate profits above the health of the people who are their customers. I expected better from the H.J. Heinz Co.
