He should try living on minimum wage

I would like to suggest that letter writer Bill York ("A Minimum Wage Hike Affects All Compensation," Feb. 21) take a year off from retirement as a director of compensation of a Fortune 500 company. He should give up the probably handsome pension he receives for one year. He can then find a minimum wage job and live on the $7.25 an hour wage for that year.
The present minimum wage was set in 2009 and has not been adjusted for inflation. Should the minimum wage rise to $9 an hour, Mr. York would still have difficulty paying rent and utilities and putting food on the table. Health care would be out of the question.
Minimum wage jobs are usually limited to 20 hours a week, so a worker will often work two or even three jobs and still be struggling. It is not a level playing field, and we don't all have the same opportunities. Someone has to do the less attractive jobs. Maybe Mr. York should try it for a while.
