The Rev. Brian J. Welding's response ("Ethics Betrayed," Dec. 10) to the Dec. 6 anti-Catholic cartoon was anything but hostile. I wonder if M.P. Gallen ("Cartoon Critics," Dec. 14) would remain silent if one of his family members was as grossly portrayed in cartoon fashion.
Regarding a democratic society, we pledge allegiance to a republic, not a democracy. We use a democratic process of voting. Perhaps our society should reacquaint itself with the Declaration of Independence.
