Get the lead out

It's time to redefine, to think outside the box. We have an environmental problem -- too much lead in the air. We are being penetrated by bullets, often fatally, in schools, colleges, theaters, malls, shopping centers, hospitals, worship sites, on the streets, etc.
The talk of banning semi-automatic assault rifles and big ammo holders and of closing a gun-show background loophole now presents the easy vote for even National Rifle Association supporters.
In 1996, when a guy used handguns to kill 16 5- and 6-year-olds and a teacher in Dunblane, Scotland, it took until only 1997 for a blanket ban on virtually all handguns in the United Kingdom to become law.
The British, who much like us are humans, don't have our Second Amendment, but our fundamental rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness are being violated repeatedly by the flying lead. Do you really think Thomas Jefferson and Ben Franklin would enable shooters to kill Americans had they seen these weapons?
I neither own nor possess a gun, and you can, too. OK, hunters can use rifles and shotguns, and law enforcement can keep some guns.
Ban sales of handguns, assault rifles, big clips. And how about melting down most of the 300 million guns here -- to really stop the flying lead?
But if you still want to enable those putting this lethal lead in the air, the results are your fault, too.
Enough, already! No more dead 6-year-olds. We can, we must get the lead out.
