Fiscal sense
Share with others:
We owe a debt of gratitude to Aaron Schachte for calling attention to our alarming mountain of debt (Oct. 10). I can't help but notice that Mitt Romney and other Republican candidates are advocating exactly the same policies that, during the Bush administration, destroyed our surplus and created this mountain of debt: 1) tax cuts for the rich (thereby lowering revenue), 2) government deregulation (including a repeal of regulations that were put in place to prevent another expensive meltdown of the financial sector), and 3) a thoughtless, aggressive foreign policy (which pushed us into obscenely expensive wars).
We should all heed Mr. Schachte's advice and vote for candidates whose fiscal policies will reduce the deficit, not add to it. One of these candidates is currently living in the White House.
