Equal sacrifice

On television, there was an interview with one of the leaders of Congress who stated that we all must deal with some sacrifice to move our country away from the "fiscal cliff." Since the best leaders lead by example, one of the first acts of Congress should be to cut all elected officials' salaries and benefits by at least 10 percent.

While this would not mean trillions of dollars, it would show that our elected representatives are willing to "share the sacrifice" and show that they are serious about cutting costs. It would also slow the cost of government a little.

Then they should consider term limits for senators and representatives, returning the meaning to "public service." While we are willing to pay a little more to help those in need, government officials should not be first in line to receive it.
