Don't judge parents
Share with others:
Sally Kalson's column had it right ("Sea of Heartbreak," June 10). To make judgments about John Shick's parents is unfair. No matter how hard parents may try to get their children treatment, it may be hopeless. People with schizophrenia often have anosognosia, lack of insight.
Parents try for years to get treatment for their ill children without success because they deny the diagnosis -- an illness they can't perceive and one they very much want to deny.
