The letter by Rob Gleason, chairman of the Pennsylvania Republican Party ("The Voter ID Law Won't Keep You From the Polls," Aug. 14) assures us we should all be comforted that Secretary of the Commonwealth Carol Aichele knows that "voting is among our most fundamental and important rights as citizens." However, Mr. Gleason is offended this statement is being used out of context to disparage the secretary in addressing the voter ID law.

As reported in this paper, the secretary admitted in court she was unable to provide information about pertinent aspects of its application because she just didn't know what was in the law, and this was four months after it was passed. Mr. Gleason needn't worry, the secretary is doing a fine job of disparaging herself.
