Does Nutting care?

Too bad for the Pirates. I don't mean the front office -- I mean the players, the guys who suit up, the guys who bring it.

It's tough to do that when you get the feeling the boss doesn't get it or, worse yet, doesn't care. The Post-Gazette editorial "Nutting's Inaction: It's Time for the Pirates Owner to Shake Things Up" (Nov. 11) was spot on.

The advice to Mr. Nutting about getting fired up, taking action, using good instincts, is good as far as it goes, but do you really think it will ever happen? From a guy who sees a 79-83 record as "improvement," well, makes you wonder. If this is what Mr. Nutting thinks "good" looks like, we are in for another long ride as long as he owns the team.

One more piece of advice, Mr. Nutting, from a onetime Pirates fan who fondly remembers Maz's dinger in the '60 series -- get in or get out. You owe it to the city and the long-suffering Pirates fans.
