Coarse and crass

Ruth Ann Dailey ("Consider the 'Rambling' Source," Sept. 3), her Republican colleagues and the mainstream press have missed the most distressing element of Clint Eastwood's presentation to the Republican convention, which is the continued coarsening of political speech.
Perhaps it is their infatuation with B-grade movie actors who cavort with lower primates on film that fascinates the GOP and causes this tunnel vision. I cannot imagine that an intelligent person such as President Barack Obama would resort to obscenities to refute the weak philosophical arguments espoused by the delusional Mr. Eastwood and the GOP during their convention.
It will take every cent of the Citizens United PAC money to sell the half-truths and outright lies pushed by the GOP standard bearers to win this election for the Republican ticket. Bush-era tax cuts, two unfunded wars, Wall Street corruption and obstruction by the GOP-dominated House of Representatives have crippled the U.S. economy. Republicans continue to block key judicial appointments throughout the federal court system.
This type of hyper-political partisanship and crass greed will continue the downward spiral of this great country. The Republicans' penchant for political brinkmanship makes me long for the days when grumpy old white men are in the political minority.
