The Dec. 30 editorial about the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives ("More Gun Victims: When Will Congress Get Serious About the ATF?") doesn't mention organized crime. What is the connection between laws that enable guns to be cheap and easy to get and laws that make it difficult for the ATF to do its job? The connection is that both kinds of laws are important, vitally important, for the drug distribution networks and the Mexican and Colombian drug cartels.
When gun laws are being considered, are these "businessmen" sitting on their hands and leaving their money in their pockets? The results show that they've been getting what they want.
