Careless bicyclists can cause a lifetime of pain

Letter writer McKean J. Evans thinks it's absurd for drivers to complain about careless bicyclists ("Cars vs. Bikes," July 31). It's absurd to think that cyclists are cited by police with enough regularity to deter running stop signs, red lights, not signaling for turns, etc.

I drive all over the Tri-State area each day, have for years, and see plenty of cars and trucks pulled over but have never seen a cyclist pulled over and getting a ticket. I do regularly see bicyclists slow down for a light or stop sign, give a quick glance left and right and off they go with a lick and a prayer, I guess!

Mr. Evans' letter just shows the arrogance most cyclists have. I truly don't know why anyone would want to ride on busy roads with vehicles several thousand times their weight, breathing exhaust and brake dust! A careless cyclist running a light or stop sign may generate more than an aggravating commute in the morning.

That cyclist may generate nightmares for a lifetime by the driver who hits that cyclist after the biker runs a light or stop sign.
